A canister vacuum is named so as a result of the vacuum motor being mounted on a drum or canister where the dirt and dust is collected. Canister vacuums have a hose attached to the canister which then is attached to a wand that has a cleaning tool attached to it. This cleaning tool may be powered to provide energy to the beater bar or rotating brush that is used to clean rugs or upholstery. In many ways the canister vacuum is ideal for cleaning just about any surface in your home or even in your car or truck. Normally the canister vacuum is pulled around the home or office by its hose to reach the areas to be cleaned. Wheels are normally attached to the canister vacuum to make this movement easy.

Canister vacuum models vary in terms of shape and size depending on their designed uses. Many are made of plastic or other light weight materials that allow them to be carried using a handle instead of being pulled across the floor. A major benefit of using a canister vacuum comes from the large assortment of tools that fit the vacuums wand. Removing the tool allows your to clean into corners and along baseboards. The small size of the power head tool allows you to vacuum carpets under beds and furniture that normally cannot be accessed using an upright vacuum cleaner. You can even remove the wand altogether and just use the hose to get under the seats of your car. The bottom line is that the canister vacuum is very versatile when comes to cleaning.

The canister vacuum does a good job of removing dirt, dust, allergens and pathogens with its HEPA filter. Sweeping are deposited in the canister in either a bag or are capture in the canister itself for easy removal. Suction power is generally higher on canister vacuums due to there design. Higher power canister vacuums can literally suck up and hold a bowling ball off the floor. This high rate of suction removes more dirt than ordinary upright vacuum cleaners.
